# How to Choose an AuctionWorx Development Partner

AuctionWorx is a .NET platform with a deep, mature codebase — which means the difference between a good customization and a mess you'll pay to undo is entirely in who you hire. The pool of developers who genuinely know the platform is small. Here's how to vet them.

## Seven questions to ask

### 1. Are you a RainWorx partner — and can RainWorx confirm it?

Partner status means the vendor works with the platform's maker, gets early access to releases, and has a reputation to protect inside the ecosystem. We're a [RainWorx Premium Partner](https://www.systenics.com/auctionworx/) and happy for you to verify that directly. Anyone can claim AuctionWorx experience; partner status is checkable.

### 2. How many years and how many installations?

Ask for numbers, not adjectives. Ours: 15+ years on the platform across Enterprise and Events editions.

### 3. Will my customizations survive an AuctionWorx upgrade?

The single most expensive mistake in this ecosystem is a customization welded into core files. Insist on extension-based approaches that survive version upgrades, and ask the vendor to explain theirs.

### 4. Is the pricing fixed before work starts?

Hourly billing on an unfamiliar codebase is a blank check. Look for published product pricing and fixed-cost quotes per milestone — here's ours, in the open: [/auctionworx/pricing/](https://www.systenics.com/auctionworx/pricing/).

### 5. Can I see it running?

Live customer sites and demo videos beat screenshots. Ask to see the actual add-on running on an actual marketplace.

### 6. Who handles deployment and what happens after?

A price that excludes deployment isn't a price. Every published price on our [pricing list](https://www.systenics.com/auctionworx/pricing/) includes deployment; ask any vendor the same.

### 7. Do they understand the auction business, or just the code?

Soft closes, buyer's premiums, consignor settlements, lotting workflows — a partner who's built for estate sales, car auctions and livestock rings solves in domain language, not just C#.

## Red flags

- No verifiable partner status
- No published pricing anywhere
- "We'll modify the core files, it's faster"
- Portfolio is all generic web work with one auction site
- Deployment billed separately as a surprise
